Tattoo Aftercare and Alhydran
It is important to take good care of a tattoo after it has been done. For the aftercare of your tattoo, you use a special cream or ointment, and you cannot do many things for a few weeks. Read here which cream you can use and when the aftercare for your tattoo is over.
The first aftercare for your tattoo and healing skin
Once your tattoo is done, foil will be placed over it (unless the tattoo artist works with second skin). After a few hours, you can remove the foil. Now the aftercare begins. It is important to keep the tattoo clean. This is because it is a kind of abrasion. It is therefore better not to wear tight or fluffy clothing on the spot of the tattoo.
To wash
Keeping your new tattoo clean is very important. You will probably use a special soap or washing gel for this. You must use a neutral soap without perfume. Your tattoo artist will probably recommend a product.
You often have to wash your tattoo 2 to 3 times a day. Did dirt get on your tattoo? Then wash it an extra time.
Apply special tattoo ointment
You can only apply specific ointment or cream if your tattoo is still an open wound. Use the ointment or cream that your tattoo artist recommends. They will usually recommend 2 to 3 times a day. This can easily be done after washing.
Avoid the sun and prevent infections
Good aftercare for your tattoo is essential to prevent infections and ink loss. You can do this by avoiding the sun and not swimming, having a bath or going to the sauna for a few weeks. Exercising is also not advisable right after getting your tattoo.
Avoid the sun with your tattoo
You can’t put sunscreen on your tattoo until it’s healed. This is one of the reasons why you should keep your new tattoo out of the sun and cover it up when you go outside or use a tanning bed. Also, the sun can fade any tattoo.
How long can you not exercise with your new tattoo?
Often after getting your tattoo, you are advised not to exercise for 1 week. This is because the heat opens your pores, making it easier for bacteria to enter and for ink to leak from your tattoo.
How long are you not allowed to swim, have a bath or go to the sauna?
Swimming, bathing and going to the sauna are often not possible for the first 4-6 weeks. This is because prolonged exposure to water softens the skin. This can cause scabs to come off. If you swim in the sea or a lake, the risk of infection is also very high.
Swimming in chlorine can cause the ink to be pulled out of your tattoo. It is therefore better to avoid the sauna and a hot bath. The heat opens your pores, allowing the ink to drain.
When to call the doctor or tattoo artist?
Do you notice that your tattoo is not healing properly or is it becoming inflamed? Then call your GP or tattoo artist. Often the wound of your tattoo heals within a week. Does this not happen? Then you can also call. If you have any doubts about the healing, you can always contact your GP or tattoo artist.
Skin Healing? Continue Tattoo Aftercare
Once your wound has healed, you can partially treat your skin normally again. We are talking about your tattoo that has healed and the scabs have fallen off by themselves. Unfortunately, you cannot do everything again and the aftercare for your tattoo is not finished yet.
Continue to care for your vulnerable skin
After your tattoo has healed (usually after 1 week), your skin is still vulnerable, especially in the first few weeks. It is therefore wise to continue to take good care of your tattoo.
Care for and protect your tattoo with a cream such as ALHYDRAN. This is a medical cream that is suitable for the most vulnerable skin. It hydrates and helps your skin to retain moisture. This makes it ideal to care for your tattoo, reduce redness and prevent dehydration.
You can also use ALHYDRAN perfectly under clothing. It is absorbed quickly and does not stain. Furthermore, it is important that you only apply the cream to closed skin without crusts.
Keep applying SPF to preserve your tattoo
Tattoos fade due to UV light. The colours of tattoos in particular fade due to UV rays. Therefore, certainly during the first few weeks, but also as long as you have your tattoo, keep applying SPF. Also, do this when the sun is not bright or when it is cloudy.
To benefit from good care for your vulnerable tattoo and sun protection, you can use ALHYDRAN with SPF 30. It ensures optimal hydration of your still recovering skin and offers high sun protection.
