Many people have questions concerning the effect of sunlight on scars. Can you sunbathe with a scar? How can you best protect a scar from the sun? Can you apply suntan lotion to a scar?
The answer to this last question is yes, you can use suntan lotion to protect a scar. But a suntan lotion is not an active scar cream that prevents and/or helps to fade scars.
Which is why we have further developed ALHYDRAN. The scar cream is now not only active in preventing new scars and fading existing ones, it also provides protection from the sun, with SPF factor 30! So you no longer have to choose between suntan lotion or scar cream when you sunbathe.
Sunbathing with a scar? Be careful!
Skin that has recently healed and closed is extra-sensitive to sunlight. UVA and UVB rays damage scars. Too much sun on a fresh scar results in permanent discolouration of the skin. So keep your scar out of the sun as much as possible!
Always prevent sunburn on a scar. Not only to prevent discolouration, but also to prevent your skin ageing and to reduce the chance of skin cancer.
Of course, it’s not always possible to keep a scar out of the sun. Especially if the scar is on your face. You want to be able to enjoy good weather, even with a scar. Which is why ALHYDRAN with sun protection is ideal.
ALHYDRAN with SPF factor 30
With ALHYDRAN SPF factor 30 you can apply a single cream to help prevent and/or fade scars – and at the same time protect your skin against UV rays.
Of course the guidelines on exposing scars to sunlight still apply: stay in the shade as much as possible; avoid the sun between 12.00 and 15.00 hours when radiation is at its strongest; apply sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before exposure to sunlight.
And: apply more than once a day! Sweat, swimming, towel drying and friction from clothing all reduce the effect of sun protection cream. This also applies to ALHYDRAN with sun protection!
